ANGELS OUTFIELDER MIKE TROUT CAPTURES UNPRECEDENTED DOUBLE
WINNING BASEBALL AMERICA’S MAJOR LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD AND ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD
DURHAM, N.C., Oct. 17, 2012 — Baseball America is running out of ways to recognize Mike Trout’s greatness.
Just one year after he was BA’s Minor League Player of the Year, Trout grabbed a place in the Los Angeles Angels’ outfield and showed he’ll be a star there for years to come, winning Baseball America’s 2012 Major League Player of the Year Award as well as its 2013 Rookie of the Year Award.
While Albert Pujols has won both the BA Rookie of the Year and Major League Player of the Year awards, no one else has ever won both awards in the same year. Such were the accomplishments of Trout, who hit .326/.399/.564 and played a stellar center field in 139 games with the Angels, after opening the season at Triple-A Salt Lake.
“We have been following Mike Trout since he first emerged as a high school star and first-round pick in 2009, and we knew he was good,” Baseball America editor Will Lingo said. “But I don’t think even we expected him to be this good, this fast.”
Trout is on the cover of the new issue of Baseball America, which has been mailed to subscribers and will be on newsstands in late October. Fans can also find Baseball America on the iTunes Newsstand or on Zinio, and they can read about Trout’s season at BaseballAmerica.com.
