Source Timeline

1994-1995 Manufacturing: Source acquires Brand Manufacturing and Yeager, as well as Vail Companies (salvage) and TCE (shipping), and becomes one of the nation’s largest manufacturers of checkout displays for supermarkets and mass merchandisers.

1995 RDA/RDP: The Source Company, a successful small business in the rebate and point-of-sale market, is formed to address the growing importance of the checkout counter to the retail industry and becomes a public company.

1997 Magazine Data: The Company begins the development and sale of information products through the Periodical Information Network (PIN). The information business, or Interactive Communication Network (ICN), becomes the standard platform for the publishing industry to receive single-copy sales information.

1997-1998 RDA Growth: Source positions itself as a leader of direct magazine distribution, information repository and the principal front-end checkout manager for major retail chains by virtue of acquiring 10 magazine retail display allowance companies.

2001 Distribution Growth: Source acquires The Interlink Companies, Inc., a leading direct distributor of magazines, making the Company the leading national direct distributor of magazines to major book chains and specialty retailers.

2003 International: The Company’s rapidly growing international business, which includes the import and export of some 1,500 publications, leads to the creation of a new London-based subsidiary, Source Interlink International (SII). SII currently operates from Source Interlink’s world headquarters in Bonita Springs, Florida.

2005 Levy Acquisition: The Company acquires Chas. Levy Circulating Co., a principal magazine wholesaler in the U.S.

2005 Alliance Entertainment Acquisition: Source completes its merger agreement with Alliance Entertainment Corp., a leading provider of logistical and distribution services to retailers selling home entertainment content products.

2006 Anderson Agencies Acquisition: Source acquires magazine and book distribution markets in Washington D.C./Baltimore and Los Angeles/Southern California from the Anderson News Company.

2007 Primedia Acquisition: Source acquires more than 78 consumer magazines, 101 related websites, over 50 events, television and radio programs, and about 800 branded products from Primedia Inc. The new group, now known as Source Interlink Media, makes Source a leading special interest magazine publisher in the United States, with well-known brands such as Motor Trend, Automobile, Power & Motoryacht, Hot Rod, Snowboarder, Stereophile, Surfer, Soap Opera Weekly and Soap Opera Digest.

2009 Privatization: Source gets corporate and financial commitment to restructure as a private company.

2010 Distribution and Media Focus: Source sells CD/DVD Division, Alliance Entertainment, to focus on core magazine distribution and media business. Source expands distribution territory to include Northern California, Kentucky and Virginia.

2010-2011 Digital Growth: Source acquires Grind Networks, MediaWorks and Mind Over Eye, all to expand our online content capabilities, grow our digital media platform and creative offerings and complement our existing digital and print initiatives.
